About MGXS

My art begins with a question—an unstoppable curiosity that drives me to explore the edges of what we know, and travel into the unknown. Possible futures, alternative realities, unseen dimensions of existence. I suggest reimagining how our universe works, drawing from and rewriting cosmogonies. My processes and outcomes are an invitation to reflect on the human condition while questioning reality, society, and technology's role in shaping our world. As someone who is intrigued by the meaning of simple objects, and how one could resignify them, I mean to challenge given norms; or anything that is given as a matter of fact. I bridge boundaries between humanity and machines, reality and imagination, organic and artificial. I explore the hybridity of universes with a much needed goal of asking the critical question, always: why?

I work off of the machine, coding protocols, setting algorithms, using generative techniques and incorporating synthetic processes. My curiosity-almost-obsession for the infinity—and the undefinition of aleatory probabilities—is evident in the room I give to the machine and its own operations. By daring to embrace the unpredictability of fate, I rewrite the universe's rules through the machine's randomness and the vastness of human dreams. My creative processes balance intuition with systematic exploration, in a constant escape from human biases.

My art is digital in its essence, but the plasticity of the matter challenges the dimensions of the screen. Through my art depicting the machine’s world, I invite people to dwell on the other side of the screen for a moment, and reimagine life and our own ways of living.

MGXS employs a fusion of generative computing, AI, machine learning, and digital art techniques to create immersive and interactive experiences. His process integrates algorithmic design, real-time user input, and evolving databases of symbols, sounds, and visuals, forming a dynamic cosmogony that blurs the boundaries between human and machine creativity. By leveraging technologies such as 3D modeling, data-driven art, and multimedia storytelling, MGXS explores themes of identity, mythology, and the intersection of the physical and digital worlds. His artworks serve as a portal into an expanding universe where art, technology, and philosophical inquiry converge.

Fernando Magalhães

Artist and Founder

Fernando Magalhães, aka MGXS. is a South American digital artist who’s been crafting AI, protocols, generative techniques for the last decade. He uses computers to generate art, and he sees them as an extension of who he is, allowing him to reach places his physical body can’t. He wants to understand how things connect, and likes exploring, testing, trying, again and again.

“They’ve called me crazy many times, and maybe I am. I question everything, my self included. I love being surprised about what comes out from my work. I believe in the power of our minds to examine our reality and keep searching for answers/exploring our world.”
